About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated Trichoderma Officer to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in conducting trials aimed at understanding the biological mechanisms, applications, and commercial potential of Trichoderma species in agriculture. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge product development and make a significant impact on global food security and environmental sustainability. The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in plant pathology, ideally with a focus on oil palm.

Responsibilities :

• Conduct laboratory trials to isolate, identify, and characterize Trichoderma strains.
• Investigate the biocontrol mechanisms of Trichoderma against plant pathogens through in vitro and in vivo assays.
• Evaluate the potential of Trichoderma under different environmental conditions.
• Design and execute field trials to assess the efficacy and practicality of Trichoderma-based products in crop protection and enhancement.
• Analyse and interpret trial data, prepare technical reports.
• Collaborate with other Verdant teams including microbiologists, plant scientists, agronomists, and biotechnologists.
• Stay up to date of the latest developments in Trichoderma research and related fields, and integrate new knowledge into development projects.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, ensure compliance with safety regulations, and assist in managing laboratory resources.

Qualifications and experience required:

• A Degree, Master’s or Ph.D. in microbiology, plant pathology, biotechnology, or a related field.
• Proven experience in plant pathology conducting trials with Trichoderma or other beneficial microorganisms in agricultural settings.
• Strong background in microbiological techniques, molecular biology, and microbial ecology.
• Proficiency in experimental design, data analysis, and statistical software.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present research findings effectively in oral and written formats.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
• Demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Prior experience with field experimentation and knowledge of agricultural practices is desirable.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements and commercialization processes for microbial products would be advantageous.
