Job Summary Surveyor

A surveyor is responsible for conducting field surveys and analyzing the data obtained to produce accurate information on topography, property boundaries, and other relevant details. His duties include mapping, construction monitoring, data analysis, documentation maintenance and communication with clients. Surveyors must also ensure compliance with applicable legal and technical regulations and integrate survey results into construction projects and area planning. Technical expertise, a deep understanding of surveying technology, thoroughness, good communication skills, and strong analytical skills are required to succeed in this role.

Job Description :

1. Conducting Surveys: This includes land surveys, construction surveys, boundary surveys, and topographic surveys using specialized equipment such as total stations, GPS receivers, and digital levels.
2. Data Collection: Collecting accurate measurements, angles, distances, and other relevant data to create maps, charts, and reports.
3. Analysis: Analyzing survey data to create precise maps, drawings, and documentation for various purposes such as land development, construction projects, environmental assessments, and property boundary delineation.
4. Legal Compliance: Ensuring that survey work complies with relevant laws, regulations, and standards. This often involves understanding property laws, zoning regulations, and surveying standards.
5. Client Communication: Interacting with clients to understand their requirements, provide updates on survey progress, and address any concerns or questions they may have.
6. Field Work: Spending time in the field conducting surveys, which may involve working outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain types.
7. Accuracy and Precision: Ensuring that survey measurements are accurate and precise, as errors can have significant implications for construction projects, property boundaries, and legal disputes.
8. Documentation: Maintaining detailed records of survey data, including field notes, sketches, and digital files, for future reference and legal purposes.
9. Team Collaboration: Collaborating with engineers, architects, urban planners, and other professionals on projects that require surveying expertise.
10. Continuous Learning: Staying updated on advancements in surveying technology, techniques, and regulations to improve efficiency and accuracy in survey work.
11. Operate drones for aerial filming, ensuring compliance with all safety and regulatory standards.

Requirements :

1. Education: Bachelor’s degree or diploma in land surveying, geomatics engineering, or related field. Some companies may require relevant surveying certifications or licenses.
2. Experience: Work experience in field surveying and mapping is desirable, although some positions may be open to new graduates who are ready to learn.
3. Technical Knowledge: Understanding surveying principles, use of surveying equipment, and mapping software is a must. Skills in operating a total station, GPS, and GIS software would be a plus.
4. Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with teammates and clients.
5. Analytical Ability: Ability to analyze survey data and make informed decisions based on the information provided.
6. Thoroughness: The ability to work with details and produce accurate data are important qualities for this position.
7. Fieldwork Skills: Ability to work in the field in a variety of weather conditions and terrains, and willingness to travel if required.
