Job Description:
The Anthropogenic greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions which have driven global warming and climate change present an existential crisis which is the defining issue that needs to be addressed urgently today in energy generation and use. Approximately three quarters of global GHG emissions are from the production, transformation, transportation and consumption of energy, due to continuing reliance on fossil fuels as a primary energy source. Driving rapid improvement in energy efficiency across the economy and transitioning the energy basket from fossil fuels to more sustainable energy sources at the scale and pace required are the key components of an energy transition strategy to achieve peak emissions as early as possible, and subsequently, drive emissions down towards NetZero.

However, energy security and affordability are keystone components of economic activity. Accelerating peak emissions and NetZero through energy efficiency & transition, without derailing much needed economic growth to close the development deficit in developing countries, is an extremely complex problem to solve. It will involve disruption to established governance frameworks, market structures, business models, pricing approaches, and technology, labour, and financial markets.

Governments that need to set the agenda and define the new rules of the game, and businesses and individuals that need to respond to preserve and create value are seeking efficient and effective solutions to achieve critical milestones and mitigate against negative distributional impacts of such a monumental change.

PwC Indonesia’s Energy Transition practice is working on several complex problems in Indonesia’s energy transition, across the public and private sector. We draw on our global network for expertise as required and localise it through our Indonesian experts to address country nuances to solve Indonesia’s challenges in planning and implementing the energy transition. We seek to do this in a way that maximises positive environmental and social impact, while driving value creation for our clients and the economy as a whole.

A sample of the kind of problems you’ll be solving: 

• Designing a policy reform basket for the Indonesian power sector to accelerate the development of renewable energy generation and ensuring a just transition 

• Assessing investment requirements, financing capacity of utility balance sheet, fiscal impact on GoI APBN of JETP transition pathway under BAU and policy reforms (energy pricing, efficient procurement) scenarios 
• Assessing commercial and financial viability of transitioning captive power fleet to gas/renewable energy including applicability of transition credits and impact of PTBAE-PU 
• Economic (GDP, green jobs, tax) and trade (carbon walls) impact of transitioning captive fleet to gas/renewable energy 
• Accounting, financial and fiscal impacts of accelerated retirement of coal fired power plants 
• Feasibility assessment of green hydrogen pilot and roadmap for scale up to address domestic and export demand 
• EV and battery market size assessment 
• EV battery recycling market size assessment and designing an incentive framework for industry development 

• Candidate Profile: 

  Experience (Yrs, min)

  Experience (Areas) 

  Energy efficiency, electrification, renewable energy, EV, batteries, alternative fuels (hydrogen, methanol, SAF), GHG, mining (critical minerals), oil, gas,  

  Functional expertise 

  Governance frameworks, economic regulation of utilities, market structures, business models, energy pricing/tariff setting, carbon pricing, sustainable financing, economic & social impact assessment and safeguards, green jobs & up/re-skilling, GHG emissions measurement & monitoring 

  Education 

• Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Accounting, Economics, Finance 
• Master’s degree or higher in any of these, and MBA highly valued 

• Others 

• Self-starter, fast learner, strong sense of accountability, able to work independently on delegated tasks and deliver expected quality within deadlines 
• Able to work collaboratively in cross-functional and cross-organisational teams 
• Strong project management skills 
• Sharp analytical and strategic thinking skills 
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
• Commercial sense, especially for Manager & above 
• MS Office literacy (Excel, Word and PowerPoint), GIS, data analytics (e.g. Power BI and Alteryx), and other relevant expertise will be an asset 
• Proficiency in English is a must, fluency in Bahasa Indonesia is desirable
