The role of the PLC Programmer is to provide concepts, design, development, debugging, and support on Programmable Logic Controller operated equipment in automated factory settings.

The PLC Programmer is expected to be initiative-taking with the ability to follow instructions (written and verbal) without extensive supervision. They will need a strong understanding of basic PLC programming and modern software concepts as well as troubleshooting and customer relationship building skills.

Extensive experience with Rockwell / Allen Bradley systems is critical to the success of this position.

The PLC Programmer’s primary responsibilities will include determining the most efficient code architecture, writing code, modifying existing code to resolve issues, creating code for new hardware, improving overall performance, and working to create the best experience for our customers. This will include working with our software developers, automation technicians and project managers.

Responsibilities:

• Modifying software to fix errors, adapt it to new hardware, improve its performance, or upgrade interfaces
• System testing and validation procedures
• Software programming and documentation development
• Consulting with departments or customers on project status and proposals
• Working with customers or departments on technical issues including software system design and maintenance
• Analyzing information to recommend and plan the installation of new systems or modifications of an existing system
• Consulting with engineering staff to evaluate software-hardware interfaces and develop specifications and performance requirements
• Designing and developing software systems using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcomes and design consequences
• Preparing reports on programming project specifications, activities, or status
• Conferring with project managers to obtain information on limitations or capabilities
• Creating and presenting training materials

Requirements:

• Knowledge of the software development life cycle
• Desire to work in a Lean environment
• Experience working on a variety of software projects
• Strong programming skills using at least one modern PLC
• Ability to read and understand electrical and mechanical drawings for equipment
• Electrical design skills a plus
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Computer knowledge and skills proficient with Excel, Word, and Power Point
