About the role

As the Plant Breeding Manager at Musim Mas, you will be responsible for leading the company’s plant breeding programme to develop new and improved oil palm varieties. This is a full-time position based in Pelalawan Riau, where you will play a crucial role in advancing the company’s biotechnology and genetics capabilities.

What you’ll be doing

• Oversee the entire plant breeding process, from initial research and development to field trials and commercialisation of new palm varieties

• Develop and implement breeding strategies to enhance desirable traits in oil palm, such as increased yield, improved disease resistance, and enhanced oil quality

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including researchers, agronomists, and production staff, to ensure the successful delivery of breeding projects

• Manage a team of plant breeders and technicians, providing guidance, training, and performance management

• Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in plant breeding, genetics, and biotechnology, and implement innovative techniques to drive the company’s R&D efforts

• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and industry standards related to plant breeding and genetic research

What we’re looking for

• Bachelor degree in agriculture, biotechnology, tissue culture, plant breeding, genetics, or a related field

• Minimum 7 years of experience in plant breeding, with a proven track record of successful new variety development

• Excellent knowledge of quantitative genetics, molecular breeding techniques, and bioinformatics

• Strong project management and leadership skills, with the ability to coordinate cross-functional teams

• Proficiency in data analysis, interpretation, and reporting

• Good communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels

• Familiarity with the oil palm industry and its unique breeding challenges would be an advantage
