Job Summary :

To lead the Forwarding department by managing air and sea freight operations to facilitate expeditious dispatch/delivery of goods as per customer’s requests with a view to achieving and exceeding targets set in terms of profitability, productivity, accuracy and quality of service whilst maintaining compliance with pertinent regulatory bodies and company quality procedures.

Principal Accountabilities:

Financial Outcomes

• Setting goals and objectives for the department in accordance with Company guidelines in key performance areas and using agreed key performance indicators and GBO’s (number of jobs, productivity, margin etc.).
• Monitoring and accounting for the result thereof using established indicators and tools (e.g. daily invoicing, daily job numbers, financial reports etc).
• Timely financial processing within Company guidelines.
• Credit Control – adhering to company policy in negotiating and enforcing payment terms and collection of freight, agency and disbursements from clients. Assisting with debtor collection when required.

Operational Functions

• Managing Export and Import Operations and monitoring of workflow and management of resources.
• Ensuring timely and accurate accomplishment of operational processes
• Facilitating speedy delivery of cargo to customers
• Ensuring compliance with all regulations such as IATA,RAGA etc.
• Ensuring the GBO (Global Business Objective) targets are monitored, reported on and achieved

Client & Supplier Management

• Managing allocated customers using established tools with a view to achieving and exceeding targets, including negotiation of contracts with customers and subcontractors.
• Monitoring and reviewing all discrepancies and customer complaints, ensuring timely
• and appropriate action is taken and implementing measures to eradicate identified weaknesses.
• Visiting clients as required and as part of a call cycle.

Human Resources

• Hiring, inducting, motivating, handling conflicts and disciplinary procedures, training and providing performance reviewof direct reports. 
• Managing staff holidays/MC leave. 
• Maintaining staff and operational efficiency and delegating duties where needed to provide optimum services. 
• Ensuring staff are thoroughly trained/supervised to perform their role in accordance to their job description and company procedures.

Holding regular team/department meetings as per company policy – updating team on related company news and housekeeping activities.

The role requires the job holder to be innovative, show initiative, be proactive and highly adaptive to the changing environment. You will work in close conjunction with the Managing Director and peers to review reported discrepancies and complaints within the branch to refine and improve services to clients and overseas offices. You will be results focused with a view to achieving and exceeding targets set in terms of profitability, productivity, accuracy and quality of service. You will optimize the company’s revenues at all times without placing an adverse effect on our client relations.

You will work at management level to help train, develop and provide managerial support to your team. Being flexible and diligent you are able to monitor/plan both your and the departments workflow. You will have great communication and interpersonal skills, time management, problem solving, prioritizing and delegation skills. You will be prepared to take on additional tasks to not only ensure the highest level of service is provided, but also lead and inspire other team members to work to their highest potential.

At times you will be required to assist in hosting overseas agents and visitors and to visit clients. You may also attend industry related functions, seminars and courses as required to keep abreast of industry development.
