Job Description: MV Substation Service Technician (Indonesia)

Position Title: MV Substation Service Technician

Location: Indonesia (various locations depending on project needs)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Job Summary:

We are seeking skilled and experienced MV (Medium Voltage) Substation Service Technicians to join our team in Indonesia. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of medium voltage substations and associated electrical equipment. This role requires a strong understanding of electrical systems, safety protocols, and compliance with local regulations and standards.

The MV Substation Service Technician will work closely with engineers, project managers, and other technicians to ensure the safe and efficient operation of substations, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Installation & Commissioning:

– Install, commission, and test medium voltage (MV) substation equipment, including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, relays, and protection devices.

– Ensure all installations comply with relevant electrical codes, standards, and safety regulations (e.g., IEC, IEEE, PLN standards).

2. Maintenance & Troubleshooting:

– Perform routine preventive and corrective maintenance on MV substation equipment.

– Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical faults and malfunctions in substation components.

– Conduct regular inspections to identify potential issues and prevent equipment failure.

3. Testing & Calibration:

– Conduct insulation resistance tests, high-potential (Hi-Pot) tests, and other diagnostic tests on MV equipment.

– Calibrate protection relays, control systems, and metering devices to ensure accurate operation.

4. Safety Compliance:

– Adhere to strict safety protocols and procedures during all tasks, ensuring compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and local Indonesian regulations.

– Conduct safety audits and risk assessments to minimize hazards in the workplace.

– Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure that all team members follow safety guidelines.

5. Documentation & Reporting:

– Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, test results, and repairs.

– Prepare detailed reports on equipment performance, faults, and recommendations for improvements.

– Provide technical documentation and updates to project managers and clients.

6. Emergency Response:

– Respond to emergency outages or equipment failures, providing prompt and effective solutions to restore power.

– Work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required by project needs or emergencies.

7. Training & Development:

– Participate in ongoing training programs to stay updated on new technologies, tools, and industry best practices.

– Mentor junior technicians and share knowledge to improve overall team performance.

Qualifications:

– Education:

– Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related field.

– Relevant certifications in MV substation maintenance and testing (e.g., NETA, IEEE, or equivalent) are highly preferred.

– Experience:

– Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in MV substation maintenance, installation, and testing.

– Experience working with medium voltage equipment (up to 36 kV) is essential.

– Familiarity with protection relays, SCADA systems, and automation technologies is a plus.

– Technical Skills:

– Strong knowledge of electrical theory and MV substation equipment.

– Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and test equipment (e.g., multimeters, insulation testers, relay test sets).

– Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and technical manuals.

– Soft Skills:

– Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

– Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

– Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.

– Language:

– Fluent in Bahasa Indonesia; proficiency in English is an advantage for international projects.

– Other Requirements:

– Willingness to travel within Indonesia for project assignments.

– Valid driver’s license and ability to operate company vehicles.

Physical Requirements:

– Ability to lift heavy equipment (up to 25 kg) and work in physically demanding conditions.

– Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.

– Ability to withstand outdoor weather conditions (heat, humidity, rain).
