PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Process all laboratory samples accurately and in line with client deadlines:

• Achieve a minimum number or re-check analysis
• Deliver market leading quality, accuracy and turn-around times
• Ensure efficient work flow through the laboratory
• Assist with development of new capabilities
• Ensure safety compliance at all times
• Interface with Chemist

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform sample analysis according to SOP’s and SGS test methods 
• Perform classical wet chemistry techniques for digestion, titration and gravimetric methods
• Perform sample analysis using the analysis instruments
• Basic lab skills a must: pipetting, dilutions, weighing on a balance, filtration
• Operates and ensure the instruments analysis (AAS, carbon & sulfur analyzer, etc.) are in optimum condition
• Ensure all relevant calibrations within equipment and instrument are performed and data recorded
• Maintenance, optimization and other protocols are followed and documented as outlined in SOP’s
• Prepare and maintain AAS working calibration standard and record
• Maintains records of all quality activities as documented in SOPs and test methods 
• Cleaning of laboratory equipment including volumetric glassware
• Ensure good housekeeping practices are adhered to, and maintain their immediate working area in a clean and safe state
• Assist in wet lab sections when required
• Report to Chemist if the analytical, equipment or other problems that may impact on the integrity or quality of results produced
• Perform any other responsibilities as assigned by Lab Assistant Manager or Lab Manager to support the division activities
• Report any perceived hazards and risks in the workplace and make suggestions for improvement
• Follow mine safety rules based on Mining Safety Management System / Sistem Manajemen Keselamatan Pertambangan (SMKP)
• At all times, adopt a safe behaviour by exercising due regard for the health and safety of SGS employees and clients, in line with SGS policies and procedures 
• At all times, comply with SGS Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct

PROFILE

• Minimum high school chemistry or vocational school
• Preferably 1 year experience in minerals laboratory
• Basic level spoken English
• Experience with International Standard Methods for Laboratory Analysis

REQUIRED SKILLS

• Good communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills
• Understand job specific risk assessment and safety focus
• Basic lab skills a must: pipetting, dilutions, weighing on a balance, filtration
• Experience using the following equipment would be highly valuable: XRF Fusion, UV Spectrophotometer, Flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer, ICP-OES
• Follow instructions from supervisors carefully and without taking “short-cuts”
• Have a good knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice, health and safety, working with acids and other potentially harmful reagents
• Applies judgment and acts according to the SGS standards of ethics and integrity
• High level of Safety and First Aid Awareness
