Position Overview

Amman Academy is a Partnership School (Satuan Pendidikan Kerjasama/SPK) that implements the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum to provide high-quality education for the children of employees working in the mining industry. The Junior School Counselor plays a vital role in supporting the social, emotional, and academic development of students in EY1 through Year 6. This position requires a highly skilled and proactive professional who is fluent in Bahasa Indonesia and proficient in English (minimum TOEFL 550). The Counselor will deliver direct support to students, provide structured SEL lessons, collaborate with teachers and Student Support Team (SST), and partner with parents to create a safe, inclusive, and growth-oriented environment for every child. The ideal candidate will be flexible, resourceful, and culturally responsive, able to wear many hats and drive the growth of a counseling program in a school with both expat and Indonesian students.

Key Responsibilities

Student Support

  • Provide individual and small group counseling to students addressing academic, social, behavioral, and emotional needs.

  • Design and deliver a structured Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum across EY–Y6 in alignment with the IB PYP philosophy and school values.

  • Support students with disabilities and diverse learning needs in collaboration with the Student Support Team (SST).

  • Conduct proactive check-ins and develop individualized plans for at-risk students.

  • Parent Engagement

  • Plan and conduct parent training workshops on child development, parenting strategies, SEL, and wellbeing.

  • Partner with families to address academic and behavioral concerns, maintaining open, respectful, and solution-oriented communication.

  • Provide resources and referrals to parents for additional community or specialist support when needed.

Collaboration with Staff

  • Work closely with SST (Student Support Teachers), classroom teachers, and leadership to design intervention plans for students with academic, social, or behavioral challenges.

  • Provide teachers with consultation and strategies to support classroom management, differentiation, and inclusion.

  • Participate actively in Student Support Team meetings, case management, and progress monitoring of students.

Program Development & Leadership

  • Establish and continuously improve the counseling program to align with best practices in international education.

  • Lead initiatives promoting student wellbeing, resilience, anti-bullying, and positive school culture.

  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding policies and maintain accurate, confidential records of counseling activities.

Professional & Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling, psychology, education, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).

  • Minimum of 5 years of school counseling experience, preferably in an international or bilingual school setting.

  • Strong knowledge of child development, SEL, and inclusive education practices.

  • Experience supporting students with disabilities and diverse learning needs (academic and behavioral).

  • Proven ability to conduct parent workshops and teacher training.

  • Language: Native Indonesian speaker with strong English proficiency (minimum TOEFL 550).
