Job Description

GIS Specialist based in Semarang or Jakarta Indonesia. The candidate has to have an experience in data management and analysis, in particular of supply chain and environmental data, with demonstrated ability working with Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing, excellent communication and writing skills. The candidate will play a central role in conducting and organising data analysis – both spatial and non-spatial – for the EF Landscape Programme, ensuring alignment and continuity across landscape teams. To be effective in these capacities, this role will require strong and effective inter-departmental collaboration skills. The ideal candidate is passionate about leveraging supply chains to improve environmental and social outcomes and interested in a career with a dynamic non-profit that builds relationships with companies, governments and civil society organizations to bring responsible products to market.

Responsibilities

In direct collaboration with the Head of GIS and Landscapes Lead, the essential responsibilities and functions of the GIS Specialist include:

• GIS and mapping
• Perform data searches and retrievals from spatial data.
• Extract and organize data: export tables from spatial data to be explored using other software.
• Overlay maps over aerial imagery to produce custom products and verify and correct geospatial data.
• Conduct landuse landcover change analysis and mapping.
• Perform standard spatial analyses such as Buffer, Spatial Join, distance and area calculations, Reclassify, Intersect, Raster Calculator, Resample and various calculations using Field Calculator.
• Perform attribute data management.
• Research and correct problems with data using spatial and logical analyses.
• Convert spatial data from one coordinate system to another.
• Participate in developing and implementing instructions of moderate difficulty to perform workflows of data analysis.
• Participate in data quality checks and cleaning to assure high quality levels of spatial attribute data.
• Create map area and develop symbology using cartographic and design principles.
• Conduct design of webgis application

• Coordinate data analysis for the landscape programme
• Generate standardized guidelines and templates for spatial and non-spatial data analysis to ensure that all landscape teams work in a consistent way, using the same approaches.
• Work with the other relevant teams in EF to align on methodologies and guidelines for data analysis, ensuring consistency across the organisation.
• Perform analysis and manage data for the landscape programme.
• Perform data analysis that meets the needs of the landscape programme. This includes generating data outputs for business development and strategic planning.
• Manage and keep up to date relevant data outputs from the landscape programme, ensuring data is stored in such a way as being accessible to all landscape teams.

• Generate data-generated reports for landscapes
• Generate quarterly alert reports for relevant landscapes. The report should be based on monitoring data from both desktop and field-based monitoring tools managed by EF.

Requirements – Candidate Profile Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor degree, or other equivalent higher level training in data management, supply chains, environmental management, GIS or another related field.
• 3-5 years of relevant professional working experience.
• Ability to understand and interpret complex data sets linked to complex, unstable scenarios.
• Ability to think creatively and build user-friendly templates, tools and presentations
• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
• Advanced data management & data analysis skills.
• Experience with supply chain data (especially palm and pulp and paper supply chains).
• Experience with handling complex and often incomplete data sets.
• Experience with working across multiple cultures & time zones.
• Intermediate to advanced GIS skills (using ARCGIS).

Language skills

• Bahasa and English proficiency
