Chemonics seeks a deputy chief of party for the anticipated USAID Indonesia Climate Change Adaptation Activity. The five year, $20 million project aims to improve urban climate and disaster resilience in Indonesia by supporting the government at all levels; working directly with communities and the private sector; and helping key stakeholders to mobilize financing and develop, disseminate, and utilize better climate change information. The deputy chief of party will support the chief of party in providing leadership in the management and technical implementation of the program and ensure successful achievement of results as defined in the award. This position will be based in Jakarta, Indonesia. We are seeking individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include:

• Support overall project leadership, management, and technical direction
• Liaise with USAID, civil society, and public and private sector partners.
• Provide technical direction to ensure that all project assistance is technically sound and appropriate.
• Direct implementation of the project’s strategic long-term vision
• Conduct work planning, performance management, and strategic communications.

Qualifications:

• Advanced degree in environmental science, natural resource management, urban planning, sustainable development, or a related field preferred
• Minimum seven years of professional experience in development, with previous experience as a deputy chief of party or equivalent preferred
• Demonstrated expertise in designing, managing, implementing, and monitoring and evaluating similar-sized donor-supported projects in the Southeast Asian region, with skills in strategic planning, management, supervision, and budgeting; preferable experience in managing complex activities involving coordination with multiple government entities
• Practical experience working with a range of program partners, including regional, national, and subnational government entities, financial institutions, civil society, local communities, and the private sector
• Strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills to fulfill the project’s diverse technical and managerial requirements and effectively coordinate with a range of stakeholders
• Proven ability to develop and communicate a common vision among diverse partners and lead multidisciplinary teams
• Technical expertise in urban climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction
• Previous experience working on development programs in Indonesia preferred
• Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
• English language fluency required; Indonesian language proficiency a plus
