Agri Development Specialist

This position involved identifying locations and working with farmers/plantations to grow plants for natural fibre that can be transformed into scalable value-added products/materials. It also includes sourcing agricultural byproducts. Even though the initial focus will be in Indonesia, the role is Southeast Asia region, and travel overseas and domestically is expected.

Responsibilities:

• Work with cooperatives and plantations to scout and identify suitable land for cultivating plant fibre crops such as abaca, bamboo, kenaf, ramie, etc…
• Source and ensure an adequate supply of quality seeds for planting and cultivation of plant fibre crops.
• Government and R&D collaboration: Establish connections and partnerships with government organizations, research and development institutions, and agricultural agencies to access resources, funding, and expertise in the field.
• Conduct in-depth feasibility studies to assess the viability of plant fibre cultivation, considering factors like market demand, cost-benefit analysis, ecology footprint, and environmental impact.
• Develop strategies for efficient utilization of resources, such as land, water, and labor, to maximize crop yield and minimize waste.
• Plan and establish modern farming techniques and processes to optimize the efficiency of planting, crop maintenance, harvesting, and processing of plant fibre crops.
• Work on improving farming practices to enhance crop yields, quality, and sustainability.
• Identify sources of agricultural byproducts that can be utilized for value-added materials and negotiate procurement agreements.
• Develop and manage budgets for various aspects of the operation, including nursery, farming equipment, crop maintenance, labor, research, etc…

This role requires a combination of agriculture expertise, business acumen, negotiation skills, and the ability to foster partnerships with various stakeholders. The goal is to develop a successful and sustainable agricultural operation that contributes to the production of plant fibres for value-added products/materials while minimizing waste and maximizing resource efficiency.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in technical discipline in Agricultural Science.
• Minimum 5 years related to agriculture experience.
• Systematic and organized.
• Good analytical thinking and planning with the ability to use PowerPoint & Excel are a pre-requisite.
• Ability to innovate, inspire, and introduce change.
• Strong leadership, communications, and interpersonal skills.
• Results-oriented personality who thrives working in a dynamic environment.
• Strong work ethic and desire to achieve excellence.
• High detail-oriented and meticulous.
• High mobility is required for this role.
