In Indonesia, GIZ’s Energy Programme Indonesia acts as trusted partner and technical advisor to the Government of Indonesia for the transition towards a sustainable energy system.

The Energy Transition Cluster of GIZ Indonesia works across five thematic areas:

• Power system transformation
• Sustainable energy finance
• Industry decarbonization
• Island energy solutions
• Just Energy Transition

The advisor provides technical advice and expertise to private sector partners, under the Energy Programme. The incumbent focus on collaboration with industry partners, associations and related networks.

To support the thematic area, we seek one (1) motivated and qualified Indonesian candidate for this position.

Tasks & Responsibilities

• Act as senior advisor within the Energy Programme on the topic of RE & EE for industry decarbonization, providing expertise to internal and external audiences.
• Provide and mobilize technical advice (e.g. techno-economic feasibility assessments) to private sector partners with the aim of leveraging investments for decarbonizations efforts in Indonesia’s industries (steel, cement, chemicals, textiles, food and beverages, FMCG, agroindustries, etc.).
• Independently develop a strong network with national and international companies active in Indonesia, industry associations and relevant networks, to identify and disseminate integrated solutions for renewable energy and energy efficiency applications across selected industries.
• Identify and drive the technical implementation of pilots and case studies for integrated application of RE & EE solutions in industry, including proposing of suitable cooperations formats (business models, R&D-, technology-partnerships, PPP, etc.).
• Advise and support ministries (MoI, MEMR, others) on the development of policies and improving the regulatory framework related to industry decarbonization, in support of the Energy Programme’s Policy Unit.
• Conceptualization of Terms of Reference for the procurement of external consultants and subsequent steering of external international and local consultants.
• Act as knowledge expert on industry decarbonisation, present results to high-level project partners and other relevant stakeholders in various formats.
• Contribute from your field of expertise to the GIZ portfolio development, including the participation in the preparation of new project concepts.
• Closely liaises with the GIZ Energy Programme’s Private Sector Collaboration Unit, contribute to an integrated, programmatic approach for delivering clean energy solutions to our private sector partners beyond project boundaries.

Job Requirements

• University degree in engineering, economics, environmental management, or similar relevant field
• More than 8 years of professional experience in industry and/or climate-friendly energy supply
• Deep understanding of energy-intensive industrial sectors and energy improvements
• Strong network in relevant industrial sectors and associations
• Stakeholder management and analytical skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills (English and Bahasa Indonesia), ability to engage senior management officials and create buy-ins
• Outstanding conceptual and strategic thinking skills
• Previous experience in procurement and steering of external international and consultants.
