1. Work individually and in small group settings with students, performing various instructional and management tasks with the supervision of the JLC homeroom teacher
2. Observe, record, and report on the goal progress of students as directed by the JLC homeroom teacher and child’s Individualized Learning Plan
3. Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the homeroom teacher
4. Plan, deliver, and assess instruction and interventions for students in small groups and 1:1 settings, with guidance from homeroom teacher
5. Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plan
6. Respect cultural differences and demonstrate basic, effective instructional strategies when working with students with learning differences
7. Support the JLC teacher in grading assignments, photocopying, laminating, filing, preparing and organizing instructional materials
8. Develop and modify materials and resources
9. Collect and maintain data as directed by supervising teacher
10. Use ongoing analysis of student performance data to support and guide interventions
11. Support the teachers’ classroom management plans and philosophies
12. Assist in implementing behavior management programs
13. Attend general education classes and electives with students and implement accommodations and modifications as necessary
14. Accompany students on field trips
15. Supervise students at recess, lunch, during transitions, and other non-instructional times, when needed
16. Assist students with physical elements of hygiene, including but not limited to, toileting, feeding, and clothing
17. Monitor students to ensure their safety and the safety of others
18. Foster and encourage the independence of students
19. Organize and supervise recreational activities to promote physical, mental and social development
20. Collaborate with other professionals, such as speech therapist, counselor, and motor therapist
21. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, parents, and other team members
22. Maintain communication with teacher regarding schedules, student progress and problem solving on a daily basis
23. When required, attend meetings before or after school to discuss student progress and assist in the development of Individualized Learning Plans
24. When required, participate in teacher-parent conferences regarding students’ progress of areas of growth
25. Assists in the coordination, maintenance, and organization of JLC resources
26. Assist with the setup and cleanup of the classroom and supplies
27. Assist with newsletter, permission slips and other communication
28. Take class attendance, maintains attendance records
29. Contribute to a positive school climate and work environment
30. Attend staff meetings and serves on committees as required
31. Assist with whole school or grade level special events such as celebrations, assemblies and exhibitions when needed
32. Assist in the care and security of school equipment and materials
33. Notify facilities/administration of potential safety hazards
34. Actively adhere to Child Protection practices any other duties as required by the Administrator or Teacher
