Role Overview

As a Senior R&D Formulator, you will lead the development of specialty chemical formulations (e.g., water treatment, maintenance/process chemicals) from concept to commercial readiness—covering formulation design, laboratory testing, application validation in the field, and scale-up support—while upholding quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and optimize formulations to meet performance, safety, cost, and sustainability (green compliance) targets.

• Prepare and execute test plans (screening–basic DOE–stability–compatibility), analyze results, and make go/no-go recommendations.

• Produce technical documentation: tech packs/formula sheets, TDS (Technical Data Sheet), COA templates, and inputs for SDS/labeling per regulations.

• Manage application trials with customers (focused and well-documented); collaborate with Sales/Technical Service.

• Coordinate with QA/QC, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain for technology transfer of formulations, raw materials, and process parameters (pilot → production).

• Maintain data traceability (lab notebook/ELN, raw-material logs, lab batches) and integrity of retain samples.

• Identify alternate raw-material suppliers; evaluate performance and cost-in-use.

• Comply with EHS (PPE, LOTO, chemical & waste handling) and implement 5S/housekeeping in the lab.

• Contribute to the product roadmap and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry (Science).

• 3–5 years of experience as a Formulator/Researcher in specialty chemicals.

• Solid grasp of formulation science (e.g., surfactants/additives, corrosion/scale control, dispersants, inhibitors) and relevant performance testing.

• Able to design tests using basic DOE, strong analytical ability, and capable of producing clear technical reports.

• Understanding of SDS/labeling, chemical regulations basics, and QA/QC practices.

• Collaborative, meticulous in documentation, safety-disciplined, and comfortable working cross-functionally and with customers (field trials).

Nice to Have (not mandatory)

• Experience with pilot/scale-up to production or plant technology transfer.

• Understanding of cost-in-use and value proposition for applications.

• Familiarity with ELN/LIMS and stage-gate development practices.
