Position Overview

The T&B Port Captain is responsible for ensuring vessels’ safe, efficient, and compliant operation under their supervision. This role involves overseeing vessel maintenance, crew training, safety compliance, and operational efficiency. The Port Captain t is the key liaison between vessel crews, port authorities, and company management to ensure smooth vessel operations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Vessel Operations & Performance Management

• Oversee and monitor daily operations of tugboats and barges to ensure efficiency and safety.
• Conduct regular inspections to ensure vessels meet operational and regulatory standards.
• Optimize vessel scheduling, fuel efficiency, and voyage planning.
• Ensure proper coal, oil, or cargo handling procedures to minimize loss and maximize capacity.

2. Safety, Compliance, & Regulatory Oversight

• Ensure all tug and barge operations comply with IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code, and local maritime regulations.
• Conduct regular safety drills, inspections, and audits to maintain high safety standards.
• Investigate accidents, near-miss incidents, and operational discrepancies, implementing corrective actions.
• Ensure crew adherence to company safety management systems (SMS) and emergency response plans.

3. Crew Training & Development

• Conduct training and safety briefings for vessel crew members.
• Ensure crew members hold valid certifications and comply with work-rest hours regulations.
• Monitor crew performance and recommend promotions, replacements, or disciplinary actions when necessary.

4. Maintenance & Repairs

• Work closely with engineering teams to plan and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance.
• Ensure all vessels have the necessary spare parts, safety equipment, and pollution control measures.
• Supervise dry-docking and major repair activities to ensure minimal downtime.

5. Coordination & Reporting

• Serve as the primary point of contact between vessel crews, port authorities, and company management.
• Assist the operations and commercial team with the interaction between the vessel and its charterers/receivers, before during, and after the intended port call.
• Provide regular reports on vessel performance, fuel consumption, maintenance schedules, and safety audits.
• Assist in budgeting and cost control for marine operations.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Minimum Marine Nautica Class II (ANT II) or Bachelor’s degree in Marine Transportation, Nautical Science, or a related field. 
• Valid maritime certifications (STCW, Master Mariner, Chief Mate, or equivalent).
• Minimum 3 years of sea service experience as Master and minimum 1-year experience in a supervisory role with a similar fleet.
• Preferably having Certification of AK3 Umum, DPA, Internal Auditor (ISM, ISO, ISPS).
• Strong knowledge of maritime safety regulations, tug and barge operations, and vessel maintenance.
• Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Experience working with coal transshipment is a plus.
• Familiarity with vessel tracking systems, maritime software, and fuel efficiency monitoring tool
• Good command of English (Spoken & Written)
• Placement in Samarinda

Work Environment & Conditions

• The role involves frequent vessel inspections and port visits, as well as office-based management tasks.
• May require working extended hours, including weekends and holidays.
• Travel to different port locations and barging routes is expected.
