Chemonics seeks a chief of party for the anticipated USAID Indonesia Climate Change Adaptation Activity. The five year, $20 million project aims to improve climate and disaster resilience in Indonesia by supporting the government at all levels; working directly with communities and the private sector; and helping key stakeholders to mobilize financing and develop, disseminate, and utilize better climate change information. The chief of party will serve as the primary communications link to USAID and establish effective and transparent team and network partner collaboration. They will oversee project implementation, setting strategic direction and long-term vision, guided by a high-profile team of diverse thinkers and doers. This position will be based in Jakarta, Indonesia. We are seeking individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include:

• Direct the project’s strategic long-term vision and provides overall project leadership, management, and technical direction for the USAID-funded climate change adaptation activity.
• Serve as the primary liaison to build, manage, and maintain effective working relations with USAID, civil society, private sector partners, and national and regional government stakeholders on all program related matters.
• Oversee work planning, performance management, and strategic communications.
• Facilitate close collaboration and teamwork, including mentorship and development of staff, with attention paid to professional development opportunities.
• Ensure compliance with all USAID rules and regulations, contract requirements, and Chemonics policies and systems.

Qualifications:

• Advanced degree in environmental science, natural resource management, urban planning, sustainable development, or a related field preferred
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in development, with previous experience as a chief of party or similar leadership role on a donor-funded development program preferred.
• Demonstrated exceptional leadership in designing, managing, implementing, and monitoring and evaluating similar-sized donor-supported projects in the Southeast Asian region, with skills in strategic planning, management, supervision, and budgeting; preferable experience in managing complex activities involving coordination with multiple government entities.
• Experience managing projects with multiple field offices or implementation sites a plus.
• Practical experience working with a range of program partners, including regional, national, and subnational government entities, financial institutions, civil society, local communities, and the private sector.
• Strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills to fulfill the project’s diverse technical and managerial requirements and effectively coordinate with a range of stakeholders.
• Proven ability to develop and communicate a common vision among diverse partners and lead multidisciplinary teams.
• Technical expertise in urban climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction
• Previous experience working on development programs in Indonesia preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity.
• English language fluency required, Indonesian language proficiency a plus.
