RECOFTC operates in the Asia-Pacific region, with country program offices in Cambodia,
Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand and Viet Nam.
RECOFTC Indonesia is seeking a Project Coordinator for its “Advancing Oil Palm Mapping
with Social Forestry and Machine Learning” project. This position is open to Indonesian
nationals and offers a 12-month contract. The possibility of extension depends on project
funding availability and satisfactory performance.
About the project
RECOFTC Indonesia is implementing the “Advancing Oil Palm Mapping with Social Forestry
and Machine Learning” project. Supported and administered by the Meridian Institute, which
serves as the Secretariat for the Lacuna Fund, this initiative aims to enhance data
accessibility and improve data quality for local communities in key areas across Sumatra
and Sulawesi. The project focuses on several communities, including the Betara community
in Jambi, the Pelalawan community in Riau and multiple communities near national parks in
Sulawesi. Specifically, it targets the Barugae, Cenrana Baru and Rompegading communities
near Bantimurung Bulusaraung National Park in South Sulawesi and the Tamalaea
community near Gandang Dewata National Park in West Sulawesi. In collaboration with our
core partner, Spatial Informatics Groups (SIG), the project will develop comprehensive data
sets to enhance understanding and support mitigation efforts related to the impacts of forest
conversion, particularly oil palm cultivation, on forests and climate change in Southeast Asia.
Tasks and duties
The Project Coordinator will be a member of RECOFTC Indonesia and report directly to the
Project Manager, who is based in RECOFTC’s main office in Bangkok, while working in
close coordination with the Country Director based in Bogor. The Project Coordinator will
collaborate closely with the RECOFTC Indonesia team to ensure successful project
implementation.
Specific tasks and duties include:

Management and oversight
• Develop and facilitate project plans, schedules and budgets
• Coordinate project activities, resources and information
• Maintain comprehensive project documentation, plans and reports
• Establish and maintain relationships with project stakeholders and partners, including
Spatial Informatics Group staff and university faculty
• Initiate regular meetings to update key partners on project progress and address
concerns
• Coordinate the allocation of project resources, including personnel, equipment and
materials
• Monitor project deliverables to ensure they meet quality standards and project
requirements
• Manage contracts of consultants and other service providers for RECOFTC
• Provide administrative support to the project team, including scheduling meetings,
preparing agendas, taking minutes and coordinating travel arrangements and
logistics
Capacity development
• Assist the team, particularly the training coordinator in capacity development
activities, including developing training curricula and materials, conducting training of
trainers, implementing awareness-raising initiatives
• Mentor and guide surveyors and students in proficient data-collection practices for
Geographic Information System (GIS) and remote sensing
Reporting, monitoring and evaluation
• Prepare project progress reports according to project requirements including semiannual and final project progress reports
• Support RECOFTC’s Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning team by providing inputs
through established channels and drafting and reviewing reports as requested
Knowledge management
• Collaborate with the communication team to develop and prepare documentation of
lessons learned for dissemination, including stories and news articles
Other responsibilities
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by the RECOFTC Indonesia Country Director
Qualifications and experience
The Project Coordinator should have the following essential qualifications and experience:
Essential:
• Bachelor’s degree in natural resource management, computer science or a related
field
• Minimum of five years experience in project coordination or a similar role

• Proficiency in GIS, remote sensing and data management software and tools
• Experience in project management, including planning, reporting, financial
management, monitoring and partner coordination
• Strong team building, leadership, networking and facilitation skills
• Strong work ethic
• Good verbal and written communication skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia
• Commitment to practising and promoting RECOFTC’s core values
• Indonesian nationality
Desirable:
• Master’s degree in natural resource management, computer science or a
related field
• Strong communication and public relations skills
• Strong analytical skills and strategic thinking ability
• Proficient training and facilitation skills, especially in GIS, remote sensing, data
management and machine learning
• Experience in project management related to data management (considered an
asset)
