Our client is seeking a highly experienced and knowledgeable Chief of Actuary for their Life Insurance division. This role is pivotal to the financial stability and long-term success of the life insurance business, requiring accurate reporting, effective risk and control processes, and leadership of a high-performing actuarial team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality actuarial advice to senior executives, fulfilling fiduciary duties to the Board of Directors and Regulator.

What You’ll Do


As Chief of Actuary (Life Insurance), you will play a critical role in shaping the future of our client’s life insurance business. Your leadership skills will be instrumental in managing a high-performing actuarial team. You will be responsible for providing accurate reporting, implementing effective risk management strategies, reviewing reinsurance arrangements, making informed business recommendations, ensuring data integrity, developing risk-based capital models, performing experience analysis, overseeing liability provisions, and conducting business projections. Your expertise will be crucial in navigating the complexities of this role.

  • Lead, manage, supervise, coordinate and control the activities of the actuarial team.
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting requirements for regulatory compliance and group reporting.
  • Design and implement risk and control processes to ensure integrity and accuracy of actuarial data and models.
  • Review and arrange necessary reinsurance arrangements.
  • Make informed actuarial and business recommendations; effectively challenge or escalate issues within business decisions or processes.
  • Ensure appropriate data, methodology, and processes are used in analyses.
  • Complete complex actuarial activities to develop risk-based capital models.
  • Perform experience analysis and ensure reasonableness of actuarial assumptions on pricing/valuation/planning.
  • Proper provision and reporting on the liabilities of insurance policies; Chair local IFRS reserve committee.
  • Perform business projection and other necessary actuarial reports.

What You Bring


As the ideal candidate for the Chief of Actuary (Life Insurance) role, you bring a wealth of experience and knowledge in actuarial, insurance or finance related fields. Your background includes at least 10 years in the Actuarial area, with significant leadership experience. You hold a recognized Actuarial Certification and have an excellent understanding of IFRS17, economic value and balance sheet. Your strong analytical skills enable you to make informed decisions based on data. You have proven experience with risk management strategies, reinsurance arrangements, complex actuarial activities, and business projections.

  • Bachelor degree or above in actuarial, insurance or finance related fields.
  • At least 10 years of experience in the Actuarial area with at least 5 years of managing experience in Finance or Actuarial area.
  • At least 3 years post qualification from a recognized Actuarial Certification (e.g. Persatuan Aktuaris Indonesia, Society of Actuaries, The Institute of Actuaries of Australia).
  • Excellent working knowledge of IFRS17, economic value and balance sheet.
  • Ability to lead a team effectively.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to make informed decisions based on data.
  • Experience with risk management strategies.
  • Knowledgeable about reinsurance arrangements.
  • Experience with complex actuarial activities such as developing risk-based capital models.
  • Experience with business projection and actuarial reports.
