We are excited to be searching for a strategic and pragmatic Senior Program Manager (living wage banana commitments) with an interest to join our team, and we hope it’s you!

Your role.

As the Senior Program Manager overseeing the living wage retail banana commitments, you will be tasked with the daily leadership and management of these commitments in the Netherlands and Belgium. Additionally, you will support general projects related to retail commitments in the Netherlands, Belgium, and the UK, and collaborating with the German commitment managed by GIZ. This is an 8-month maternity leave replacement position.

Location based: in Brussels, Belgium or Utrecht, the Netherlands.

In this position you will manage the Belgian and Dutch commitments. Your main responsibilities include:

• Organize regular joint and individual meetings / workshops with the retailers to align approaches and drive progress.
• Manage relevant living wage projects and activities in support of the retailer’s commitment (e.g. organize capacity building sessions on the salary matrix, development of guidelines, manage projects to close the gap with retailers, etc.)
• Liaise with different stakeholders and partners (certifiers, NGO’s, World Banana Forum, trade unions, scientific institutions) to drive work on living wages. This can include supporting the integration of the salary matrix tool in standards and discussing aligned approaches on data collection.
• Monitor progress on the commitments through reporting and data analysis and organize public communication on this (publications, stakeholder events, etc.).
• Align actions with colleagues working on the other commitments and GIZ, which is managing the German commitment, to ensure efficiency.
• Monitor the budget related to these commitments.
• Lead the topic of better jobs within the business unit of ‘Sector Initiatives’ by keeping an overview of all activities on this topic within the business unit, coordinate quarterly reporting as well as annual plan and reporting on this topic along with the colleagues from M&E.

Who you are.

• You are an effective project manager who can translate strategic goals into operational plans and take full responsibility for program implementation, deliverables, and outcome reporting, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and within scope. You manage an annual work plan and budget and identify and contract with implementing partners.
• You are a skilful retailer convenor who can support retailers in meeting their commitments by organizing joint workshops, learning sessions, and exchange events.
• You excel at building relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including local producers, producer associations, traders, trade unions, government bodies, and civil society organizations.
• You have a data-driven mindset that helps define precise KPIs to measure retailers’ impact on living wages. You generate market and retailer reports, along with in-depth wage data analyses, to further refine actions.

What you bring.

• At least 5 years of directly related experience working in the role; or in close relationship with the private sector.
• At least 7 years of relevant working experience in international organisations/settings, preferably in program development and implementation in sustainable agriculture management and/or human rights management.
• Preferably experience working with retailers and traders.
• Affinity or experience on living wage.
• Ability to motivate staff and companies in taking action.
• English fluency. Dutch, French, and Spanish are desirable.

A challenging, pivotal role within an impacting, international organisation – and:

• A salary range between EUR 4,884 – 6,105 (based on a 40-hour work week), job level 17. The job level is evaluated based on IDH methodology; the successful candidate will be placed within the range depending on relevant work experience. The selection process is conducted, applying STAR interview methodology.
• An 8-month contract for maternity cover.

Important note: The salary range, and compensation and benefits (C&B) package mentioned above applies to candidates based in Belgium. For candidates in the Netherlands, the salary range and C&B package will be adjusted according to IDH Netherlands’ offer, while maintaining the same job level.
